The JP Freestyle Wave 92 proved itself again over the weekend ! Having had the blast of my life last Thursdy in Seapoint on this board I leant it to Oisin at the IWA Cork Wave Event to cope with the nasty onshore conditions. Result ! Oisin powered his way to his 2nd win of the year proving just how versatile the JP FSW is .... especially in the right hands ! Well done Oisin !
On the subject of the Wave event, a big well done to the Kinsale OEC crew & judges who put on a very efficiently run event in pretty awful conditions. It was hard work for all the competitors as the walls of white water rolling in on Garretstown beach made it difficult to get out the back. If you got caught in a lull or were undersailed then it was the wash pit in the left hand corner for the rest of the heat ! Those who regularly did get outback still had to contend with very onshore conditions & make the most of the occasional clean ramp for aerials. Catching a wave to ride was also tough and some of the down the line riding called for a contortionist !
The final between Oisin, Finn Mullen & Jeff Cochrane had to be recalled as just as the green flag went up the mist descended and the judges could barely see the beach let alone the sailors ! Shame this as it was way windier then than it was when the judges restarted the heat. The judging had to be done from the waters edge with the sailors restricted to pulling moves “within sight of the judges” !
Oisin won out narrowly beating Finn into 2nd & Jeff 3rd . Other guys doing well were Morgan Maguire, Nathan Regan & seasoned local competitor Wes Packham.
