Surfdock Wave Shock

Once again the Surfdock Team are delighted to invite you to our almost World Famous 'Surfdock Wave Shock'!

THE AIM OF THIS FUN COMPETITION
is to introduce beginner and intremediate wave-sailors to wave sailing and wave competition, while learning with like minded people to push and improve your wave skills. If you are in any way 'wave-curious' or even want to learn to loop or how to try a few stunts... this is the place for you ! It's all about getting on the water, trying the waves, and pushing your limits in a fun environment.

HOW?
Meet up at CROSS STRAND, Co.Mayo, and get free coaching from the Surfdock Team.
Try a few heats, competing in teams, while being judged by your friends, with tips and hints from your team leader.

THE PLAN:
  1. Free, Fun and Casual! - (No fee to take part)... though we reccomend that you join the IWA... everybody should !
  2. Everyone is welcome!! We want as many sailors there as possible!
Getting everyone on the water for as long as possible is our main aim.
  3. Get scored for your sailing, any type of sailing no matter what stage you are at.
INTERESTED?
If you would like to attend, or need more info, contact Surfdock by email : info@surfdock.ie or check out Surfdock's Facebook page.

LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING...
Please let us know by email if you would like to attend, as we will need a contact number to inform you by text, just in case the beach location changes!

SHARE THE TRIP !
Don't be shy, we reccomend you share the travel costs with a friend. It's always more fun with someone else ;) If you need a lift, or have one to offer, please let us know.

HOW TO GET THERE
Cross Strand is a few miles South of Louisbourg village, which is approx 15 minutes West of Westport.
When you drive through Louisbourg village, head south on the main road, (ignoring the signs for Carrowniskey).
After a few miles, you will come to a crossroads with a small church on your left, and a cemetery on the right hand side. Directly after the cemetery, TURN RIGHT, and follow this road all the way to the beach. Simple !

WAVE EVENT IS ON!

Hello all,
The Autumn wind is kicking in nicely, and it's high time to get out in the waves and enjoy it.
We are sure everyone is itching to get some good wavesailing, and with recent events, we know we certainly are even more so.
It's only right that we try and catch this good forecast - we hope you agree.

!!**This is an early warning**!! - that the planned wave event for this weekend (2/3 Oct) is looking like going ahead.
THIS WILL BE CONFIRMED THURSDAY LUNCHTIME - FORECAST DEPENDENT

VENUE-
The forecast at the moment looks like the Westport area is going to offer good conditions for both days, most likely Cross Strand near Louisbourg.
Being based in Westport gives us the option to move locations if needed - Cross Strand/Carrowniskey, Achill/Mulranny, Belmullet.
Cross Strand near Louisbourg is also a really great venue to easy access to the water, setting up judges, freesailing area etc..

!!**PRE_ENTRY**!!
It's would be really helpful to us to know if you are coming!
For that reason, and if we need to alert you of venue change or event info, PLEASE send an email to: events@surfdock.ie , stating your name and mobile phone number.
We are not asking for entry fee now, just PLEASE let us know you will be there.

Entry requirements -
You will need to be a member of the IWA to participate in this event.
This provides your insurance, and other benefits. Please sign up here http://windsurfing.ie/membership
Forms will be available on the day - but again , the less time spent doing paperwork on the day, the quicker we can get sailing.

Everyone is welcome! Hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, or need any further information, or of course any suggestions - just email: events@surfdock.ie

Hopefully the forecast gets event better,

best regards,
Surfdock and DMG

Surfdock DMG Wave event - IWA Champs

Hi All,

It looks like the windy Autumn weather is kicking off nicely,  just in time for the first IWA Wave event on 16/17th September, and hopefully then a great run for the following Wave, Speed and Slalom events too.

It's certainly going to be a busy Autumn, and hopefully great windy fun for everyone – no matter what your style of windsurfing !  Surfdock and DMG Sailsports are delighted to be hosting the next event in the calendar -  The IWA Wave Champs, and are working hard behind the scenes to make sure you have a great event with great sailing.

Some preliminary information about the event for you:

What's it all about?: Getting out there and having some fun in the waves, pushing your skills and learning how to shred with like minded people.  There are fleets for everyone – you dont have to be a wave guru – you just need to be interested in getting out in the waves and trying it out.  You always come away inspired and ready for more action !

Dates:
September 18th-19th      or if no wind – rollover option:  October 2nd-3rd.

Venue:     In order to get good wind, and fun wavesailing conditions, we wanted to try something new this year, and we hope you will think it is worth it !   We have chosen from 3 venues,  and will decide on which one, depending on forecast a few days before the event.

Option 1. - Magheroarty Beach, Donegal.
Possibly the most beautiful beach in Ireland, Magheroarty has a great mix of waves on the beachbreak, and on the world famous reef – which is surfing and waveriding heaven (and easy to sail even in a big swell).
This works best in SW or W wind.

Option 2. -  Westport area – Co Mayo.
Basing an event out of Westport, gives us the option to change venue each day depending on the forecast – where we can choose from Louisbourg, Achill, Mulranny or event Belmullet.  All wind directions are covered, and Westport is a great party town too !

Option 3 – Dublin.
In strong SE, South or SW-W wind, Dublin has great wavesailing (also North and NE), with plenty of jumping and riding.  It's our backyard, and it would be great to bring a comp to Dublin for the first time.  Our fun coaching wave event was good fun – and showed us the number of wavesailors who are looking for some fun

The venue notification: will be posted by Lunchtime on Wednesday, and finally confirmed by lunchtime Thursday before the event.  This information will be posted on Surfdock Website & Facebook Page, DMG Website and Facebook Page, IWA website and windsurfireland egroups.

Registration info:  To make it easier to organise, we would really really really appreciate that you pre-register your interest in the event by sending an email to:  events@..., with your name, and mobile number.  This ensures we can get you the most accurate information about venues, and also give us an idea of numbers.

Entry requirements:  Everyone is welcome! But you must be a member of the IWA to compete in any IWA event.  Membership also provides you with personal insurance.
Forms will be available at registration, or you can join beforehand by visiting:  www.windsurfing.ie

We are working on putting together accomadation information, and will post this in the next couple of days.
Hope to see you out on the water !!

Old School Slalom board Compeition winners

So after much deliberation and the distraction of a days windsurfing we have chosen the winners of the Old School Slalom Board competition.

Congratulations to Peter Swanton with this fine effort:

An obviously overweight young man decided to sign up for a windsurfing program, complete with a personal trainer, to lose some weight. It included a three hour session each morning each morning at 6:00 a.m. So when the next morning the young man wakes up at five o'clock and heads down to the windsurfing center, there he struggles into a XXL wetsuit, grabs a massive beginner board, a 3.5m sail, and heads down to the beach there stands his trainer, the most beautiful blonde he has ever seen. She's tall, very well endowed above a very slim waist with long graceful legs. She's dressed in a small shortie wetsuit that can barely contain her. She smiles and says, "If you can keep up with me, you can have me." she carries her gear into the water, beach starts, gets into the harness and foot straps and planes off into the horizon. The man gets into the water, and after futile three hours has traveled 100m. This continues each morning. After about three very frustrating weeks the young man begins to get in shape and can almost keep up with her. One morning he can even feel the spray from her wake on his face. But he thinks tomorrow will be the big day. I'll catch her and have her. He barely sleeps that night waiting in eager anticipation. The next morning, he sprints down to the beach and can barely believe his eye's, There stands a huge burley woman, at least six feet five inches in height and over 250 pounds. She's muscled up like a plough ox and has a large wart amid her facial hair. She smiles and says, "I'm your new trainer. If I can catch you, I can have you!"

:P :D

(he really could have done with a slalom board! :P)

Runners up prize goes to Francie Park with this cracking one liner

Two gold fish are in a tank, one says to the other"how do ya drive this thing?"

Boards are here to be collected guys so call on down to the dock!

Robby Naish SUPing in Surfdock

We had an absolutely great day in Surfdock today, when the biggest name in Windsurfing, Kiting and SUPaddleboarding dropped in to say hello!

Robby Naish is an absolute legend, he is without doubt the most respected, liked and famous waterman there is in any watersport.

Robby was in town to open the RedBull Illume exhibition in Trinity College http://www.redbullillume.com/home.html , and we were lucky enough to arrange through Oisin and RedBull for Robby to drop by, and use Surfdock for a nice SUP session while being interviewed by RTE.

A few Surfdock friends joined Robby and Aidan (RTE presenter) on the water, and Robby showed us how do do it properly!
We would love him to work full time teaching our Stand Up Paddleboarding classes, but unfortunately that will probably not happen!

Here are a few shots of our day... hope you enjoy them !
